VMware Products – Upgrade and Licensing Requirements. You must keep upgrading to the new version of the existing VMware products that is used in your environment . Otherwise , VMware software might became absolute and upgrade may not be possible at one stage. A product version upgrade is applicable when a new version of the same product is available.
To upgrade a VMware product to the most current version, your Support and Subscription contract must be current and active when the new VMware product version is released. While under contract, there is no cost associated with a version upgrade. By default , you will get notified in My VMware portal when the new version of product become available. If you do not receive notification , then your support contract might expired.
