What is new in BDRSuite 7.0.0 Release Candidate ?
BDRSuite 7.0.0 Release candidate (RC) offers agent-less KVM backup and recovery through KVM hypervisor. It also includes changed block tracking, automated scheduling, flexible recovery options and more. This release candidate of BDRSuite 7.0.0 Release candidate (RC) is designed exclusively for new installations. It is not suitable for use with existing installations and should not be applied as an update to them.
- Versatile VM Format Support: BDRSuite supports the download of backed-up VMs/Disks in various virtual formats, including RAW, VHD, VHDX, VMDK, and Flat-VMDK. These formats are useful for full VM recovery or VM migration to different virtualization platforms.
- Rapid VM Recovery: It allows for quick restoration of an entire KVM VM from backup in less than 15 minutes. This restoration can be performed on various hypervisors, including KVM, Hyper-V, and VMware, ensuring minimal downtime and business continuity.
- File and Folder Recovery: BDRSuite offers the option to mount the backup disk, enabling instant recovery of individual files or folders using the Disk Mount feature. This granular recovery capability simplifies the process of retrieving specific data without the need for a full VM restore.
- Incremental Backups: BDRSuite employs incremental backup techniques, capturing only the changes made since the last backup using features like Changed Block Tracking (CBT). This approach significantly reduces backup times and storage space requirements while ensuring data consistency.
- Flexible Storage Options: BDRSuite provides a wide range of storage options for storing backed-up data. You can choose to store your backups on local disks, NAS (Network Attached Storage), SAN (Storage Area Network), cloud storage services like S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud, Wasabi, and more. This flexibility allows you to tailor your storage strategy to your specific needs and budget.
Limitation: Supported Versions: QEMU 4.2.0 & above, Libvirt 6.0.0 & above
AWS Backup – As we know that BDRSuite supports Amazon EC2 backup and recovery using EC2 snapshot features. In BDRSuite 7.0.0 Release candidate (RC), we have an option to choose the backup destination as local or cloud. It also supports multiple recovery options.
BDRSuite leverages native AWS APIs and snapshots to create copies of EC2 Instances for backup and offers flexibility to store backup data in either local or cloud storage.
- Agentless EC2 Backup: BDRSuite offers agentless backup for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances. This means it can back up EC2 instances without requiring additional software agents to be installed on the virtual machines.
- Application-Aware Support: BDRSuite includes application-aware support, ensuring that backups consider the state and consistency of applications running on the EC2 instances. This helps maintain data integrity during backup and recovery processes.
- Flexible Restore Options: Users have various restore options, including restoring the entire EC2 instance, recovering specific files, and potentially more granular recovery options. This flexibility allows for tailored data recovery to meet specific needs.
- Retention Policies: BDRSuite provides retention capabilities, allowing users to define and manage retention policies for snapshots and backup data. This ensures that backup data is retained for the desired duration.
- Diverse Storage Options: Users can store backups on a range of storage solutions, including local disks, Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Network (SAN), or cloud storage platforms like Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud, Wasabi, and others. This flexibility enables businesses to choose storage solutions that best fit their requirements and budget.
- Automated Snapshot Scheduling: The software allows for automated and scheduled snapshots for EC2 instances. This ensures that backups are taken at specified intervals, reducing the need for manual intervention and improving data protection.
- Application-Aware Processing: BDRSuite includes application-aware processing, which can be essential for ensuring the consistency of applications and databases during backup and recovery operations. This minimizes the risk of data corruption.
- Pre/Post Scripts: Users can define pre and post-backup scripts to customize backup and recovery processes further. This scripting capability can be useful for specific application requirements or workflows.
- Snapshot Storage in the Same Region: BDRSuite stores snapshots within the same region as the EC2 instances. This can be advantageous for compliance, data locality, and data access efficiency.
- Granular Restore Options: Users have the choice to restore an entire EC2 instance or specific volumes within an instance, allowing for fine-grained recovery control.
